16 Students. 6 adults. 4 years since Katrina. One amazing city.
Even four years later, New Orleans stays on our minds and in our hearts and we continue to remember what happened in August of 2005.
Burke returns to New Orleans from March 28th to April 4th to help, working with Lean on Me, Inc. a wonderful non-profit for families affected by Katrina. We’ll be staying in our very own volunteer house in Violet, LA while helping residents of the Lower 9th Ward and a local animal shelter. Everyone is excited, and there are a handful of students who are returning for their second service trip to NOLA! We’re also planning a Hurricane Katrina bus tour, some nights out in the French Quarter with Cafe Du Monde as our headquarters, filming and blogging our way through the trip and cooking some southern meals as a family-it will be an amazing week. Thanks to Amanda, Liz, Rod, Helene, Dan and to our incredible students for serving…

We want to hear more about the trip to New Orleans! How about some pix!!!
I am so incredibly grateful for the students of your school. The fact that you are returning to New Orleans says alot about your character and for that you should be commended.
Make sure you check out the local eateries…there’s one on the corner of St. Claude and Elysian Fields (the BIG pink building) they have the BEST po’ boys this side of heaven! Also, please make sure you stop by and talk to some of the residents of the lower 9th ward…most notably Ms. Evelyn, she’s an elderly person that lives there…and she is the sweetest lady I know. (and also makes some slammin’ gumbo)
Have fun, and I’ll check in with you all later!
