We refuse to forget the devastation from Katrina, and in our own small way, we’re going down to NOLA to show we still care about this city both as Americans, and maybe more importantly, as fellow human beings.
2005 might feel like a long time ago, but for a lot of residents from New Orleans, 2005 never ended. Here at Burke we recognize the need still exists, so we go down every year with a humble frame of mind and help.
Earlier I went around with my new Flip camera and interviewed some colleagues about our trip, asking “Why still go to NOLA?”…their answers are both interesting and inspiring. I’m lucky to work with these folks. I’ll pose the same question to students and hopefully get some posts up while in New Orleans.
Next stop: The City that Care Rebuilt.
