“Imagine discovering you are not the person you thought you were. That you have a family, a history, an ethnicity you never knew. How would this discovery impact your life, the lives of those around you; your vision of yourself and society?” This is the story of Michael Fosberg, who learned, at the age of 32, after growing up in a middle-class white family, that he is black. He shares his journey to uncover and discover his roots, family and identity in his one-man play Incognito.
Last week he performed the play for Burke. The reviews are that the show was “wonderful,” challenging, funny and thought provoking. Students and faculty had loads of questions for Mr. Fosberg, and have continued to discuss the play and the questions that it poses about identity, heritage, race and our lives as individuals and as community members.
