Yesterday at lunch, we were visited by Mr. Robert Benz and Mr. Ken Morris from the Frederick Douglas Family Foundation (www.fdff.org). Mr. Morris is a direct descendant of Frederick Douglas and Booker T. Washington, and is using his influence to raise awareness of modern day slavery through reaching out to schools. It was incredible to witness living history through stories, pictures and a vital mission. Burke has been chosen as one ten schools nationally to help the Foundation raise awareness around December 2-Abolition Day-through working with the History Department, Equity and Inclusion, Service Learning and Activism programs.
Think slavery no longer exists?

Congrats to Burke on being named one of only 10 schools across the nation to work so directly on Abolition Day this year. Well done! Can’t wait to see what unfolds.
