Want to ‘see the stuff that dreams are made of’? Well, then I’m going to make you an offer that you can’t refuse. So, go ahead, make my day, and attend the Burke Film Festival Saturday May 15!
The Film Fest, brought to you by our own Allen Jackson, is where young film makers can follow Frank Capra’s advice: they “don’t follow trends, [they] start them!” We promise that if you attend the film workshops (starting 1pm) and/or the Film Screening and Awards (6:30), you’ll get the feeling that you’re not in Kansas anymore. So, round up all the usual suspects, in fact, get enough so that you’re gonna need a bigger boat, open the pod bay doors, and head over to the Film Festival. If you do, you’ll consider yourself the luckiest man (or woman) on the face of the Earth. When you walk into the theater, they’ll have you at hello.
Wait a minute, wait a minute. You ain’t heard nothin’ yet! There are tons of cool film workshops on things like “Breaking into the Biz,” directing, lighting, filming writing and pre-production — all taught by industry professionals who have been there – done that, including Edwina Findley, star of HBO’s The Wire and TREME.
Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, you need to make sure you’re at Burke tomorrow. You won’t need no stinkin’ badges to get in – just a ticket.
To get a sense of the high quality of the student films that you might see, here’s one of the excellent winners from last year:
Rosebud. La-dee-da La-dee-da. [btw - can you find all the film quotes? Want to suggest others?]
